Overview

Summer conditions can cause irritation, overheating, and coat damage. However, the Tempest Original Summer Shield Rug helps minimise these issues with thoughtful design and proven protection. The tight-weave upper fabric blocks up to 90% of UV rays, helping reduce the risk of sunburn and coat bleaching.

Quick-drying mesh side panels encourage steady airflow around the horse’s body. As a result, horses stay cooler and more comfortable during turnout. In addition, the full belly flap increases protection against biting insects and dust.

The lightweight rug feels comfortable for daily wear while maintaining excellent durability. Therefore, it works well for horses turned out for extended periods during summer.

Benefits

The Tempest Original Summer Shield Rug delivers practical protection while helping horses stay relaxed and comfortable outdoors.

Key benefits include:

• Helps block harmful UV rays
• Reduces sunburn and coat bleaching
• Shields against flies and biting insects
• Encourages airflow through mesh panels
• Lightweight design improves comfort
• Belly flap provides extended coverage
• Durable ripstop fabric supports long-term use

In addition, the breathable materials dry quickly after light rain or washing.

How It Works / Directions

This rug combines UV-blocking fabric with breathable airflow panels to create a comfortable protective layer. While the upper section shields sensitive areas from sunlight and insects, the mesh lower panels help heat escape naturally.

For best results:

• Fit securely using the buckle chest straps
• Adjust the fillet strap for stability
• Use during turnout in warm weather
• Check fit regularly for comfort
• Clean according to care instructions

Because the rug uses lightweight materials, horses can move freely while remaining protected.

Safety

The Tempest Original Summer Shield Rug has been tested according to BS EN 13758-1:2002+A1:2006 standards for UV protection. In addition, the secure fastening system helps maintain proper fit during movement in the field.

The breathable design also helps reduce overheating during warmer days. However, owners should monitor horses regularly in extreme temperatures and changing weather conditions.
