Hard Rubber Mouth Pelham

Product Description

Hard Rubber Mouth Pelham

Overview

The Hard Rubber Mouth Pelham offers riders a balanced combination of comfort, control, and stability. Many horses respond well to thicker rubber mouthpieces because they feel softer and less intrusive. The Hard Rubber Mouth Pelham provides gentle contact while still allowing effective communication through the reins.

In addition, the firmer rubber mouthpiece reduces excessive movement in the horse’s mouth. Therefore, some horses feel more secure and relaxed while working. While certain bits create too much movement, this design offers a steadier feel. Consequently, riders often choose this bit for horses that prefer a thicker and more stable mouthpiece.

Benefits

Comfort and clarity are essential for productive riding. This bit supports both while helping riders maintain consistent control.

Key benefits include:

• Thick rubber mouthpiece that feels gentle on the horse’s mouth
• Stable design that reduces unnecessary movement
• Pelham action offers both snaffle and curb influence
• Suitable for stronger horses that require additional control
• Durable construction designed for regular use

In addition, the Hard Rubber Mouth Pelham allows riders to apply subtle rein aids. Because the mouthpiece remains relatively steady, many horses feel more confident and relaxed. Therefore, it can help improve responsiveness and balance during schooling or competition.

How It Works / Directions

This Pelham combines snaffle and curb actions in one bit. When the rider applies rein pressure, the bit distributes pressure across the mouth, poll, and chin. Consequently, it provides additional control while maintaining clear communication.

Riders can use this bit in two common ways:

• Double reins: One rein for snaffle action and one for curb action
• Pelham roundings: Attach roundings to allow use with a single rein

For best results:

• Fit the bit correctly so it creates one to two small wrinkles at the mouth corners
• Adjust the curb chain to sit comfortably under the chin
• Use light, balanced rein contact

While riding, maintain soft hands and steady aids. Therefore, the horse can respond calmly and comfortably.

Safety

Horse welfare should always guide bit selection. The Hard Rubber Mouth Pelham uses thick rubber that helps protect sensitive mouths.

However, riders should check the bit regularly for damage or wear. In addition, ensure the curb chain and bridle fit correctly. Proper fitting improves comfort and prevents unnecessary pressure.

Experienced riders or trainers often recommend Pelham bits because they require educated hands.
